The country will hold a weekend of events to celebrate this historic occasion, and Stock is planning to be part of the country’s celebrations.
On Friday 8th May (which is the Bank Holiday moved from the previous Monday) there will be an afternoon of events on the Common. At the moment the programme is being developed, but we expect to include dancing, bands, singing, sideshows, Punch and Judy, a magician, exhibitions, a BBQ, cakes and more. Many of the village’s clubs and societies will be represented. At 3pm, in common with the rest of the country, there will be a reading of the Toast to the Heroes and a raising of glasses. Later on, again with the rest of the country, the Cry for Peace will be read and the Beacon will be lit. The church bells may well ring out. Watch this space.
On the Saturday evening there will be an English Barn Dance with the St. George Barn Dance Band and caller in the Village Hall. Tickets will be limited and will be on sale in March – look out for posters giving details.
On the Sunday the churches are expected to combine for a service of celebration and commemoration.
A leaflet drop will shortly be made, giving more information and including a request for help on the Friday and Saturday morning.
